TAWAU: The Crime Prevention and Community Security Division (BPJKK) of the Tawau District Police Headquarters (IPD) uses the “snap check” concept to curb criminal activities in the district.

Tawau District Police Chief, ACP Jasmin Hussin, said the assignment was carried out by members of the Patrol Car Unit (MPV) and Motorcycle Patrol Unit (URB) around residential areas and other hotspots that were identified. These included housing estates, villages and towns that were given priority in an effort to increase the sense of safety among the community.

He said the snap check method aimed at preventing crimes while eliminating opportunities for criminals.

Jasmin said during the assignment, members on duty would check the registration of suspicious looking vehicles during the inspection, to locate vehicles that were reported missing.

“The police will also take action if there were illegal items or equipment found during the inspection,” he said.

He added that the assignments arranged by BPJKK and IPD Tawau would be carried out continuously.

This, he said, was in line with efforts to reduce crime cases such as burglary, theft, robbery, drug and illegal racing.
