Tawau’s drought disaster declaration has been lifted after water supply and weather conditions stabilised, though water shortages persist on Pulau Sebatik.

TAWAU: The Tawau District Disaster Management Committee has officially revoked its earlier declaration of a drought disaster in the district.

Committee chairman Datuk Joseph Pang said the decision was made in line with the Sabah State Disaster Management Committee after conditions no longer met the criteria.

He confirmed that water supply and weather conditions in Tawau are now stable and under control.

“However, there is a water shortage affecting only Pulau Sebatik, which is a concern,” Pang stated in a press release.

Authorities will continue to monitor the situation and hold regular discussions to ensure conditions remain manageable.

Pang also advised the public to avoid spreading outdated information and to refer to official channels for accurate updates.

The committee had earlier declared Tawau a drought disaster area based on field data indicating prolonged dry conditions.
