TAWAU, Oct 9 — The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) is channelling RM62.76 million for the implementation of 18 public infrastructure projects for the benefit of over 200,000 residents in Tawau.
Its minister, Nga Kor Ming, said the urban wellbeing-based projects are being implemented throughout the year under the supervision of agencies under the KPKT.
“One of the projects is the RM43 million sanitary landfill centre in Bukit Gemok. This is important to ensure Tawau remains clean, vibrant, green and progressive as Sabah’s key tourism destination,” he told reporters this after visiting the Pelita Public Park in conjunction with the KPKT Sentuhan Kasih Tour series here on Wednesday.
Nga said other projects include the development and beautification of the landscape of Tawau town, the construction of the Tawau Fire and Rescue Department station and quarters in Merotai, as well as projects to upgrade public markets.
He added that the ministry had previously approved projects in Sabah, such as the construction of the RM20 million Kota Kinabalu Botanical Garden and the construction of a RM30 million two-storey car park in Foh Sang, Kota Kinabalu.
“Sandakan also received RM35 million for the sanitary landfill site,” he said, adding that the ministry is recognised as the most appreciated by the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) in the Prime Minister’s Department for successfully implementing 11,807 public infrastructure projects between 2023 and 2024. — The Borneo Post
