Kota Kinabalu: Tawau may soon be excluded from the seven districts currently under the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone) curfew order.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani said the matter was discussed during an Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) meeting on Monday.

Commenting further, Acryl Sani said there were no more kidnapping incidents reported in the State’s east coast for the past three years. “Although so, we cannot just end movement restrictions yet.
“The absence of kidnap for ransom (KFR) attempts are due to constant vigilance and monitoring by our security forces. We need to make sure there is no threat before moving on to other districts,” he said. Acryl Sani said study findings would be submitted to the Government while security measures are maintained.
He said Sandakan, Lahad Datu and Semporna are still categorised as high-risk areas because they border neighbouring countries. The dusk-to-dawn curfew was implemented in 2014 following the stand-off in Kampung Tanduo, Lahad Datu.
