TAWAU: Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of a man in Kampung Ranggu Cina, Mile 8, Jalan Apas, here.

Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the 31-year-old suspect, a farm worker in the same village, was arrested around noon Monday, less than 24 hours after the incident on Sunday.

He said a team found the victim, 33, with cuts on the head and body, believed to have been inflicted with a machete inside a house, after receiving a report from the victim’s brother who came to Inanam Police Station in Kota Kinabalu at 11.30am on Sunday.

Jasmin said acting on the information, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division and Sri Indah Police Station were sent to the scene.

“Preliminary investigations showed the motive behind the incident is a misunderstanding between the victim and the suspect’s family. Both of them know each other,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
