TAWAU: Police confirmed that no tsunami incidents had been reported along coastal areas of Tawau, although monitoring operations are still ongoing as a precaution.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said monitoring began as early as 8am, with officers deployed to identify high-risk coastal zones.
He said the operation covers coastal areas of Tawau town and surrounding locations, including patrols on Sebatik Island.
“A total of six officers and 25 personnel have been deployed for continuous monitoring,” he said.
Jasmin advised the public to avoid coastal areas for now and to move to higher ground immediately if any emergency arises.
He also urged small-scale fishermen to temporarily suspend fishing activities until authorities confirm that the situation is safe.
As of 12.30pm, he said all monitored areas remained normal with no tsunami-related incidents reported.
“At this moment, Tawau remains safe, peaceful and under control. The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will continue to monitor the situation and are ready to take appropriate action if needed,” he added.
He also reminded the public to rely on official sources for updates and avoid spreading unverified information that could cause panic.
