TAWAU: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) in Tawau recorded the highest number of arrests nationwide last year, with 108 detentions for various offences and 9,187 inspections.
Tawau Maritime Zone Director, Maritime Captain Shahrizan Raman, said the agency contributed significantly to the total arrests in Sabah, leading to the State winning the Best State Maritime Award and the Admiral’s Cup at an event in Penang on Jan 15.

He noted that smuggling of controlled goods and illegal immigrants remain the major offences in the district.
