Teacher believed to have crashed into two students in school grounds taken to court for remand

THE teacher who is believed to have crashed into two students in front of a school surau, resulting in the death of a Form One student yesterday afternoon in Kota Bahru, was brought to court this morning.

The 57-year-old female teacher arrived in a police truck at 8.40 am wearing lockup attire.

The teacher will be remanded in the Magistrate's Court, and the case will be investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

It was reported yesterday that a Form One student died, while another was seriously injured after being hit by a vehicle driven by a woman in front of the school's surau.

Kota Bharu District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azmir Damiri, reportedly said the incident at 1.50 pm involved a car driver and the victims were two female students.

He said initial investigations found that the female driver was believed to have pressed the gas pedal and the vehicle skidded before hitting two female students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tanjung Mas.

As a result of the incident, one victim died at the scene due to serious head injuries, while the other was seriously injured and was receiving treatment at the hospital. – April 13, 2026
