INVESTIGATIONS into allegations of sexual misconduct by a teacher against a student at a school in Johor have been handed over entirely to the police.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said that the teacher involved in the investigation has been placed on immediate leave while the investigation is carried out.
According to her, the Ministry of Education (MOE) will not compromise in such cases.
"The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has taken full charge of this case. The individual involved has been detained by the authorities.
"The Social Welfare Department (JKM) will also offer all the necessary assistance to the girl involved. The Ministry of Education will continue its internal investigation," she said in a statement.
According to her, the community is urged to come forward to report any cases related to alleged sexual offences to the authorities.
It was reported earlier that the police in Johor detained a man following widespread social media reports detailing the alleged sexual abuse of a young schoolgirl in the Seri Alam district.
The investigation was initiated after Johor police intercepted a Facebook post detailing an incident from September last year involving a teacher and a 12-year-old female pupil.
The matter came to light when the pupil in question was alleged to have engaged in indecent behaviour with another student, prior to the incident being investigated by the school administration, during which the child confessed to having a sexual relationship with the teacher.
Following the viral publication of these allegations, the victim's 37-year-old mother lodged a report.
Acting Johor Police Chief, Deputy Commissioner Hoo Chuan Huat, confirmed the subsequent police action.
“The complainant informed police that the incident was believed to have occurred sometime in 2025 in the Seri Alam area. Acting on the information received, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Seri Alam District Police Headquarters (IPD) arrested a suspect.
“The man was detained at about 10.30 pm last night to assist in the investigation,” he said.
Initial drug screenings performed on the 28-year-old suspect returned negative results, and a background check revealed he has no prior criminal record.
“The case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for touching any part of a child’s body. If convicted, the accused may face imprisonment of up to 20 years as well as whipping,” Hoo added. - May 22, 2026
