Teacher injured in alleged attack at Kuching international school

KUCHING: A student staged an attack in an international school in Kuching, Sarawak, today, injuring a teacher.

Acting Sarawak police commissioner Saifullizan Ishak (pic) confirmed the incident and said the student had a penknife and a hatchet, Bernama reported.

Sinar Harian quoted the school authorities as saying the teacher was injured when he tried to confiscate the weapons from the student.

The school authorities said the 16-year-old student was restrained and escorted to the principal’s office, where he was monitored. They said his parents had also been contacted.

The teacher was sent to hospital for treatment, and no other injuries were reported. The school was also closed immediately to facilitate the police investigation.

Saifullizan said the student was arrested earlier today before being freed on police bail. He said the case was being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means.

He said further information on the incident would be provided by Kuching police chief Alexson Naga Chabu.
