A schoolteacher and a married man allegedly involved in an affair were fined RM5,000 or six months in jail after pleading guilty at the Syariah High Court in Melaka for attempting to commit an immoral act on February 28.
Syariah Judge Mohd Yunus Mohamad Zin made the decision after receiving the pleas from both accused.
They were charged under Section 52 of the Melaka Syariah Offences Enactment 1991, reported Harian Metro.
It was earlier reported that the teacher at a secondary school was suspended from teaching duties following allegations that she was having an affair with someone else's husband.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the action was taken while an internal investigation was being conducted by the ministry as it involved the teacher's integrity, conduct and morals.
However, according to her, the teacher was still carrying out certain duties as a civil servant during the investigation.
Several video clips also went viral, showing the man's wife confronting the teacher.
The controversy erupted when several screenshots of a conversation on the WhatsApp application between the two individuals went viral.
Based on the allegations shared on social media, the relationship allegedly began when the man offered to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and electrical wiring at the teacher's house. – May 30, 2025
