Teacher remanded over alleged rape of 14-year-old student in Penang

A 32-Year-Old male teacher from a secondary school in Seberang Perai has been remanded for four days to assist in investigations into the alleged rape of a 14-year-old student.

The remand order, effective from today until 6 October, was issued by Magistrate Chia Huey Ting at the Balik Pulau Magistrates’ Court.

The case is being investigated under Section 376(2) of the Penal Code, which deals with statutory rape involving persons in positions of trust or authority.

The suspect, dressed in a yellow long-sleeved T-shirt and track bottoms, was escorted to court by police officers and arrived at approximately 8:14 a.m.

Police confirmed that the teacher voluntarily turned himself in at the Southwest District Police Headquarters after the victim lodged a police report.

According to initial reports, the victim, who is a student at the same school, alleged that the incident occurred in November last year at an open-air car park of a shopping complex located along Persiaran Bayan Indah, Penang.
