Technical fields like engineering and AI are vital for national development and competitiveness, says minister, highlighting Johor’s RM11.43 billion allocation
JOHOR BAHRU: Technical professions must remain a strategic national priority for Malaysia to stay competitive in the digital age, said Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
He stated that engineers, architects, technologists and construction experts form the foundation of national progress.
In a world driven by automation and artificial intelligence, these fields are key drivers shaping the nation’s future, not just salaried careers.
“Young people should look at technical fields as platforms for innovation capable of catalysing solutions to human and global challenges,” Nanta said.
He added that Malaysia must adopt IoT, AI, VR and big data to enhance efficiency and management systems.
Nanta was speaking at the National Technical Profession Day 2025 celebration at Persada Johor International Convention Centre.
He noted innovations like robotics and Building Information Modelling are transforming construction through improved safety and productivity.
The minister stressed that technology must remain rooted in wisdom and compassion for the people.
“What is the purpose of technology if it does not improve people’s lives?” he asked.
Nanta said Johor’s selection as host reflects its role as a growing economic and technical hub.
He revealed Johor receives RM11.43 billion in federal allocation for 2025.
This includes RM10.24 billion for pre-construction and construction projects.
A further RM1.19 billion is allocated for road, building and slope maintenance.
“With this allocation, we are not just building and maintaining, but shaping Johor’s future,” Nanta concluded. – Bernama
