A TEENAGE couple was brought before the Sepang Magistrates’ Court on Thursday over the alleged murder of a university student in Cyberjaya last month.
The first accused, Sri Darvien Mathavan, 19, who is unemployed, is charged with murdering 20-year-old Maniishapriet Kaur Akhara between 9.11pm and 11.31pm on 23 June 2025 at Block A303A, Mutiara Ville, Persiaran Multimedia, Cyberjaya, in the district of Sepang.
His girlfriend, V. Deniswary, also 19, is charged with abetting the murder at the same place and time.
Sri Darvien is charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction. Deniswary is charged under Section 109 read together with Section 302 for abetment, which carries the same penalty.
Magistrate Khairatul Animahtul Jelani did not record any plea from either accused as the matter falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharuddin told the court that several investigation documents were still pending, including the forensic and post-mortem reports, and requested that a mention date be set.
The court fixed 11 September 2025 for mention to allow the prosecution time to complete documentation before applying for transfer of the case to the High Court under Section 177A of the Criminal Procedure Code.
No bail was offered to either accused. - July 10, 2025
