Teen cousin who murdered 10-year-old Lily Peters receives prison sentence

Carson Peters-Berger, 18, was sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to the 2022 murder of his 10-year-old cousin, Iliana "Lily" Peters, in Wisconsin.

Peters-Berger lured the young girl into the woods in Chippewa Falls as she rode her bicycle home, where he beat, strangled, and sexually assaulted her.

Authorities stated Peters-Berger, who was 14 at the time of the crime, admitted his intention was to rape and kill the victim from the start.

Chippewa County Judge Steven Gibbs handed down the life sentence following a plea agreement that dismissed two additional sexual assault charges.

Attempts by the defense to transfer the case to juvenile court were rejected by the judge and an appeals court due to the severity of the offenses.
