Teen fined RM10,000 in mule account case

Kota Kinabalu: A 19-year-old youth was fined RM10,000 in default three year’s jail for indirectly dealing with unlawful transaction involving a sum of RM28,000 using her own bank account.

Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain made the order for Vianney Christy Enjon who pleaded guilty to the charge against her on Friday.

Vianney had committed the unlawful debit transaction in her bank account at Kg Kinapulidan, Ranau on Feb 27, this year.

She committed the offence under Section 424C(1) of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between three and ten years, or could be a fine of between RM10,000 and RM150,000, or both, on conviction.

The court heard that while the complainant at a school on Feb 26 this year, she had received a call from an individual who introduced herself as Puan Aira Abdul Halim, claiming that the complainant had pending electricity bill in Kuantan, Pahang.

The call then transferred to another individual who introduced himself as “Sarjan Fariz IPK Pahang” who accused the complainant had involved in the illegal money laundering and asked the complainant to make payment.

On Feb 27, this year, the complainant had transferred RM28,000 to the bank account under the name Vianney Christy Enjon.

The complainant then realised she was deceived and immediately lodged a police report for further action.

Investigation revealed that Vianney was the owner of the bank account. She also confessed that she gave her ATM card to a man known as Leong Khai and received RM150 as rental for the ATM.

Vianney also failed to take action to block or close her account even though she knew that her details on the bank account had been given to outsider and have potential to be misused.
