  • Tristan Roberts, 18, has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 22 years and six months for the murder of his mother, Angela Shellis, 45.
  • Roberts attacked Ms Shellis with a hammer and strangled her, beginning at their home in Prestatyn before killing her at a nearby nature reserve in the early hours of 24 October last year.
  • He recorded parts of the fatal attack on a dictaphone and later "boasted" about it on the online platform Discord, describing how he "smashed her skull in so hard with a sledgehammer".
  • The court heard Ms Shellis, a teaching assistant, had previously sought support for her son, who was diagnosed with autism and ADHD, and had expressed concerns about his mental health and purchase of weapons.
  • Roberts had posted messages online about his intentions to kill, including a note referencing "hatred of women" as a motive, and had used an AI search engine to ask for advice on murder methods.
