Teen pleads guilty to punching teacher at Kajang school

A 14-YEAR-OLD boy pleaded guilty in the Magistrates’ Court here today to punching a teacher during an incident at a secondary school that has since gone viral on social media.

The boy, a Form One transition student, entered the plea after the charge was read out to him by a court interpreter before Magistrate Fatin Dayana Jalil.

According to the charge, he was accused of voluntarily causing injury to a 29-year-old male teacher at the school at 4.48pm on Monday.

The charge was brought under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of one year in prison, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Syafiq Mohd Zulbahrin led the prosecution, while the accused was represented by counsel S Priyalatha.

The prosecution requested bail to be set at RM5,000 on the grounds that the case was of a serious nature and had attracted public attention online.

However, the defence argued for a reduced amount, noting that the accused was a juvenile and still attending school.

The court subsequently granted bail at RM1,000 with one surety and set 11 September for the submission of a character report by the Social Welfare Department (JKM) prior to sentencing.

Journalists covering the case were not permitted to enter the courtroom due to the accused’s status as a minor.

The boy’s parents were present during the proceedings, with his mother, in her 40s, stating that he is her only child and lives with her following a separation from his father.

She added that her son regretted his actions and had apologised to the teacher involved.

On Monday, a 38-second video of the altercation went viral, showing a confrontation between two individuals of differing stature, during which one is seen punching the other on the cheek.

Harian Metro previously reported that the student was detained after the teacher lodged a police report alleging that the boy had punched and threatened him. - July 30, 2025
