
TUARAN: A 15-year-old teenage girl drowned while another was rescued during a picnic at Tanjung Badak Beach here on Saturday afternoon.
The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department operations centre dispatched 11 personnel from the Tuaran station following a 3.59pm emergency call reporting that two girls were feared missing at sea.
One victim was pulled from the water by members of the public prior to the arrival of rescuers and was subsequently taken to hospital via an Emergency Medical Rescue Services vehicle after receiving initial treatment at the scene.
A search operation led to the discovery of the second teenager at 5.08pm, but she was confirmed dead at the scene by Health Ministry medical officers despite cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) efforts.
The body of the deceased victim was handed over to the police for further action before the operation officially ended at 6.07pm.
