A 16-year-old girl who went missing after a disagreement with her parents over her excessive phone use has been safely located at a friend’s house in Kuala Terengganu.
Shah Alam District Police Chief ACP Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim confirmed that the teenager left her home in Section 20 on Sunday morning at 8 am, taking a bus to the Bukit Jalil bus station.
"Having no clear destination, she spent two nights sleeping at the Surau Darul Bukit Jalil before deciding to travel by bus to her male friend's house in Kuala Terengganu, whom she had met on Facebook," Bernama cited Mohd Iqbal saying in a statement on Wednesday.
Upon reaching Kuala Terengganu, the girl’s friend immediately informed her family of her safe arrival, after realizing she had run away.
"The friend's family then took the teenager to the Kuala Terengganu police station to file a report," Mohd Iqbal added.
Investigations into the incident revealed that the teenager had left home following a reprimand from her parents about her excessive phone usage.
"At 5.11 pm today, the victim’s family arrived in Kuala Terengganu and safely brought her back to Shah Alam," said Mohd Iqbal.
The incident highlights the challenges parents face in managing their children's screen time and the potential consequences of disagreements over technology use. Fortunately, the teenager is now safely reunited with her family. – March 13, 2025
