IPOH: Police have detained a 17-year-old schoolboy and a 14-year-old schoolgirl on suspicion of abandoning a newborn baby girl, with her umbilical cord still attached, in a box at an Islamic centre.

Selama police chief Sarudin Samah said a report was lodged by a man who discovered the baby at Pusat Pengajian Islam Nur As-Salam in Rantau Panjang and took her to hospital.

He said the 14-year-old girl is undergoing hospital treatment.
