Teenager presumed dead after kayak capsize identified

  • A 19-year-old kayaker, Michael Henry, is missing and presumed dead after his kayak capsized off the coast of Northumberland on 7 July.
  • Mr Henry, from the Rothbury area, was one of two men in the kayak; the other man was rescued by the coastguard after managing to reach a buoy.
  • Northumbria Police confirmed that extensive searches for Mr Henry have concluded, and they believe the teenager has died.
  • Mr Henry's family paid tribute to him as a "much-loved son, brother, grandson, nephew, team-mate and friend" and thanked emergency services for their efforts.
  • Chief Inspector Jon Caisley extended sympathies to the family, and a fire service representative issued a warning about water safety following recent tragedies.
