A TEENAGE boy has been arrested to assist investigations into a rape case involving a girl, who is a minor.

Maran District Police Chief, Superintendent Wong Kim Wai, said the 17-year-old teenager who is waiting for his SPM results was arrested on Friday, after the victim's mother lodged a police report.

Based on the report, he said the victim, 16, claimed to have been raped at a house in early March, after the girl went out for a walk with the suspect she had just met in Bandar Maran.

"The suspect then took the victim to a house and raped her.

"However, the victim informed her mother about the incident on Friday before a police report was lodged," he said.

Wong said the suspect who was arrested on Friday was released after the police finished recording his statement.

"There is no need for the police to obtain a remand order because the investigation into the suspect has been completed.

"Evidence and blood samples have been taken, and the case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.

“If convicted, the suspect can be jailed for up to 20 years and whipped.” – March 22, 2026
