Iran on Monday renewed its call for a ceasefire in Lebanon amid continuing Israeli attacks, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi saying the current fragile truce between Iran and the United States must also encompass Lebanon.

"The ceasefire between Iran and the US is unequivocally a ceasefire on all fronts, including in Lebanon. Its violation on one front is a violation of the ceasefire on all fronts," Aragchi said in a post on X.

According to Iran's Fars news agency, Araghchi had said on Sunday evening that negotiations with the United States over a potential framework deal to end the war were continuing and urged the public to disregard speculation to the contrary.

However, an Iranian media report on Monday claimed that Iran would break off indirect negotiations with the US due to the intensifying Israeli attacks in Lebanon.

Analysts view Lebanon as strategically and ideologically important to the Islamic Republic. The Iran-backed Hezbollah movement is one of Tehran's closest regional allies.

With the advance of Israeli ground troops into Lebanon over the weekend and possible new attacks in the Beirut area, the war in Lebanon continues to escalate.
