SANDAKAN: Telecommunications companies have been directed to improve internet services at all tourist destinations in Sabah ahead of Visit Malaysia Year 2026.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the government consistently monitors communication services nationwide at tourist sites, public premises, and major event locations.

Speaking after a coverage quality test at Sepilok, he said stronger connectivity would enhance tourists’ experiences and boost online promotions for tourism businesses.

Mobile coverage at Sepilok was generally satisfactory, although telcos have been ordered to resolve identified technical issues swiftly.

Fahmi added that enforcement actions will continue against service providers who fail to meet quality standards, with ongoing collaboration planned between the Ministry and Sabah’s tourist centres to strengthen connectivity.
