Temperatures set to rocket again as UK faces more heat health alerts

  • The UK Health Security Agency has issued yellow heat health alerts for large parts of England as temperatures are forecast to rise significantly.
  • Temperatures are expected to climb from Saturday, potentially reaching between 30C and 33C across central and southern England and parts of Wales by next Tuesday.
  • The alerts will be active from 9am on Saturday, August 8, until 9pm on Tuesday, August 11, covering regions including London, the South East, and the Midlands.
  • These warnings highlight a potential significant impact on health and social care services, with a possible rise in deaths, particularly among the elderly and those with existing health conditions.
  • This summer has already experienced record-breaking heatwaves, contributing to over 2,800 excess deaths, and last month was the driest July for England and Wales since 1836.
