MIC DEPUTY president Datuk M Saravanan today said the lack of inaccurate information had led Muslims to believe that the Dewi Sri Pathrakaliamman Temple along Jalan Masjid India was illegally built.
In a press conference today, the Tapah MP clarified that the temple had never been relocated from another spot and had in fact, been built over a hundred years ago.
"I however stress here that I do not blame anyone for being upset as there has been plenty of misinformation and the lack of information over the temple issue, especially with regard to the land status.
"I want to clarify today that the temple is over a hundred years old and was never relocated nor demolished," he said.
He also dismissed claims that the land was sold when he was a deputy federal territories minister.
"This is nothing but a baseless allegations spread by certain quarters.
"The truth is MIC at that time under the leadership of Datuk Seri S Samy Vellu did all it could to protect the temple back in 2006 when it faced a threat of being demolished," he said.
He said steps were being taken to resolve the issue amicably between current landowner, Jakel Trading Sdn Bhd and the temple management.
"We would like to thank Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the government for ensuring the temple was not demolished and assure all parties concerned that the matter will be resolved amicably," he added. - March 23, 2025
