DEPUTY Chief Minister cum Works Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said temporary U-turns have been built for all stretches affected by the Pan Borneo Highway construction site in the Sepanggar area in Kota Kinabalu.

He said accusations that the Government did not provide such facilities were false and could confuse the people, as well as making it difficult to construct the highway.

According to him, he received a complaint from the opposition where they said the Pan Borneo Highway construction route in Sepanggar up to the Berungis Roundabout, Sepanggar was not provided with a U-turn.

“Actually, a temporary U-turn has been constructed at the intended location and the allegation of a 12km route without a U-turn is false and baseless.

“These people do not understand and try to mislead the people,” he said in a statement on Sept 7.

Bung said although there are many challenges that the contractor implementing this project has to face, they did not ignore the safety and comfort of users even at the peak of congestion.

“I hope people will be patient during this construction period and always obey the warning signs when driving in the construction area,” he added.

He was responding to a statement issued by the Sepanggar Warisan Chinese Community Advisor recently saying it was revealed that road users faced difficulties in using alternative routes at the location along the Sepanggar section to Berungis Roundabout, as there is no U-turn.

Road users have lamented that the absence of a U-turn had caused severe traffic disruptions especially during peak hours and urged the Government to do something to solve the problem.
