Kota Kinabalu: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has crippled a syndicate smuggling frozen chicken into Sabah following a joint operation at a local port on Tuesday morning.
Ten containers containing illicitly imported frozen chicken from China were seized under 'Op Chick', conducted by the MACC Intelligence Division alongside the Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) and the Royal Malaysian Customs Department.
Preliminary investigations revealed the containers were falsely declared and bypassed mandatory inspection procedures after authorities were allegedly bribed to facilitate the entry.
Three men aged between their 30s and 50s, working as forwarding agents and company managers, were detained during the operation, with MACC currently working to identify other individuals involved.
MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman confirmed the arrest and operation, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 17 of the MACC Act 2009 and all suspects will be brought to the Kota Kinabalu Magistrate's Court for a remand application on Wednesday.
