Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag admits elimination from the Carabao Cup "is not good enough".

Holders United were outclassed at Old Trafford 3-0 by Newcastle United on Wednesday night.

Ten Hag said, "We know this is not good enough. We have to take responsibility for it, so do I. We're sorry to the fans.

"We have to recover from it. We have to do it quickly. Saturday is the next game. We have to raise our standards. This is not good enough.

"I am confident that players will stand up and stick together. This is not good enough. I am responsible for this. We have to stand up together.

"You only get confidence when you want to play. You have to get the right result. Be in the game, win your battles. Do it together. There is no other way than sticking together, but you have to be disciplined and accountable. That is the key word."

United meet Fulham on Saturday and Ten Hag added: "We have a night sleep and then we will pick the team and the tactics. Most importantly, the mentality is where we have to prepare."
