Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag says he and his staff feel "connected" to the players.

Having started life at United in difficult fashion with two defeats in his opening two games, Ten Hag has managed to wrestle control of the United squad and has stamped his authority on the team.

"I feel we are really connected with this team and with this squad," he told Sky Sports. "We are united, also really connected with the culture of Man United.

"We are really connected with that. The team is really growing - I would say it is about how to beat [teams], win games and do it in the United way," he added. "So, togetherness and do it in an attacking and proactive way."

Ten Hag went on to speak about what he looks for in his players, perhaps giving an insight into various big calls he has made this season.

"You need players who will take responsibility and you need the right characters in the dressing room," he said.

"So that when they go onto the pitch they know what it is going on and they take the right choices and the right decisions - so you have to rely on your players in such moments, which we can do.

"And players like it, to play games. Like Leeds, like big games coming up like Barcelona, like City and Arsenal. But I think all of the Premier League games - players like it to have a challenge. Because when they get challenged they get the best."
