RANAU: The 10th anniversary of the Mount Kinabalu earthquake that claimed 18 lives in 2015 was commemorated at Kinabalu Park on Thursday, marking a day of remembrance and reflection for those affected by the tragedy.

Sabah Parks Trustees Board Chairman Peter Lintar said while the pain remains, the event spurred significant reforms in mountain safety and disaster response throughout the decade.

He paid tribute to the victims - climbers, mountain guides and young adventurers - and acknowledged the enduring grief of their families while commending their strength and resilience.

A separate earthquake remembrance event was also held in Kundasang town, with Peter expressing hope that such programmes will continue to foster awareness, preparedness, and community resilience.
