The new Malaysian facility will integrate into Tencent Cloud International’s existing global network, which currently spans 66 Availability Zones across 23 regions, including neighbouring markets such as Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand.

Tencent Cloud Vice President and Managing Director for Asia Pacific Bluefin Jiannan Zhao noted that Malaysia remains a key market in the company’s regional growth strategy.

The Johor cloud region will serve as a critical node in their global infrastructure, allowing enterprises to scale locally and accelerate AI-driven innovation. The investment was officially announced at the Tencent Cloud C-Suite Dialogue 2026 in Kuala Lumpur.

To support the growing demand for enterprise AI, Tencent Cloud showcased several production-ready solutions.

These include Tencent WorkBuddy, an agentic AI workspace that automates tasks like market research and data analysis, and the Agent Development Platform, which allows enterprises to design custom AI agents with multi-agent collaboration.

The company also highlighted TokenHub, a Model-as-a-Service platform that lets businesses manage multiple large language models via a single API.

Tencent recently made its Hy3 large model, formerly known as Hunyuan, globally available. The model is currently accessible for free through Tencent WorkBuddy until 31 August 2026.

On the local front, Tencent Cloud announced new collaborations with Boost and Genting Plantations Group to integrate AI agent solutions into their workflows.

These companies join an existing roster of Malaysian partners and clients leveraging Tencent Cloud technologies, including Ryt Bank for conversational banking, YTL Communications for eKYC customer verification and OpenSys Technologies for palm-based biometrics.

To ensure a steady supply of industry-ready professionals, Tencent Cloud is collaborating with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia to train more than 1,000 digital and AI talents.

The joint initiative encompasses an AI and Cloud Innovation Hackathon, a Train-the-Trainer programme and official Tencent Cloud certifications.

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Vice-Chancellor Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Shafry bin Mohd Rahim stated that the partnership will bridge academic learning with the actual tools used by the industry.

The programme goes beyond basic introductions, equipping students and educators with practical skills to utilise Tencent’s AI solutions, including WorkBuddy and Tencent Design Miora, to develop applications that address real-world Malaysian scenarios.
