A delegation of Confederation of Greater Mohali Resident Welfare Associations (Regd.) Mohali, the apex body of 65 resident welfare associations (RWAs), met Manjit Singh Brar, Punjab Local Government Secretary at his office.

The delegation, led by president KK Saini, placed before him the long-standing serious problem of waste management in the city and their demands and concerns regarding setting up a zero-waste plant.

Brar assured the delegation that the tender process for waste management will be completed by May 31. He also informed that a senior IAS officer has been specially appointed to supervise the project, so that the problem can be resolved quickly by expediting the action.

Confederation patron MS Aujla, meanwhile, informed that the organisation had been making continuous efforts for the past several years to scientifically manage waste and implement the “zero waste” project in the Municipal Corporation area. “The garbage heaps are not only leading to the environment being polluted, but also serious impacts on the health of the people. Due to polluted air and dirt, respiratory, skin and many other diseases are increasing,” he added.
