Emergency services battled a wildfire overnight in Tenerife on Saturday (19 August) as thousands of residents evacuated their homes.

Footage posted by Spain’s Guardia Civil shows the blaze burning as the sky glows orange at night time.

At least 12,000 people have been forced to flee their homes due to the wildfires on the Canary Island.

Approximately 250 firefighters have been deployed to tackle the blaze.

A yellow weather warning has been put in place for Tenerife as temperatures are due to increase to at least 34C.
