Kota Kinabalu: Tenom is setting its sights on becoming one of Sabah's top tourism destinations alongside Kundasang and Semporna through tailored packages highlighting its history, agricultural produce, local coffee, and natural attractions.
Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Minister Datuk Jamawi Jaafar (pic) said the initiative would be reinforced by a proposal to organise Visit Tenom Year 2027 in conjunction with Visit Sabah Year 2027.
The Melalap assemblyman noted that the Discover Tenom committee, established in April, is identifying tourism potential across Tenom and Kemabong to finalise viable commercial packages and attractions within the next two months.
To boost accessibility, Jamawi said a proposal will be submitted to the Sabah State Railway Department to run express weekend train services between Tanjung Aru and Tenom, catering to two-day, one-night and three-day, two-night tour packages.
He added that preparations will also focus on upgrading infrastructure, including clean dining amenities, comfortable lodging, and parking facilities, while working closely with the District Office and industry stakeholders ahead of Visit Sabah Year 2027.
