Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching visits the family of late Makkal Osai senior editor Dr Rajan Boopalan to offer condolences and support
KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching today visited the family of the late Dr Rajan Boopalan, Senior Editor of Tamil-language daily Makkal Osai, at their home in Selayang to offer moral support to the grieving family.
During the visit, which lasted about 20 minutes, Teo offered words of encouragement to the late editor’s widow, A Saraswathi, and their three children, and presented a contribution to help ease the family’s burden.
She said she had visited Rajan while he was receiving treatment at Selayang Hospital and had not expected to receive news of his passing so soon.
“I received news of his passing yesterday morning while I was in Johor. I had visited him at Selayang Hospital… at that time his condition was quite critical, but I never expected that in less than a month, I would suddenly receive news that he had passed away.
“My deepest condolences to the family. I’m very, very sorry for their loss. But I want the family to know that Dr Rajan’s contribution to the media industry and to the country will always be remembered, and he will be missed,” she told reporters at the house.
Rajan was among the recipients of aid from the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA X TM fund, which was presented on Oct 7 while he was receiving treatment at Selayang Hospital for complications arising from high blood pressure.
Teo presented the contribution during her visit to the late editor at the hospital. His wife received it on his behalf.
Rajan was reported to have fallen in the bathroom of his home on Sept 8, following which an examination revealed a ruptured blood vessel in his brain.
He underwent surgery to remove a blood clot before receiving follow-up treatment at Selayang Hospital.
He had also received aid from Tabung Kasih@HAWANA on Jan 6, 2025, following health issues related to his lungs and liver.
Rajan, 68, died at Selayang Hospital at 4 am yesterday.
