KULAI, Aug 10 — Political parties are advised not to use race, religion and royalty — dubbed the 3Rs — as a last-minute weapon for the state election campaigning in the final two days before polling day, said deputy communications and digital minister Teo Nie Ching.

She said political parties need to be responsible by not exploiting 3R sensitivities, but to instead campaign in a healthy way.

“There are only two days left to campaign, so I hope all the candidates will use this time to explain their respective offers to the people,” she told reporters after visiting six families in Taman Kulai here who were victims of a recent fire.

Also present was Senai assemblyman Wong Bor Yang.

Teo, who is also the Kulai MP, said that the ministry was satisfied with the cooperation by social media providers in blocking 3R content throughout the state election period.

She explained that this is based on a report received by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) that is responsible for blocking any unpleasant content, especially from political parties during the state election season.

“The monitoring is done by the ministry through MCMC and the Royal Malaysian Police to ensure that appropriate action can be taken as soon as possible,” she said.

Teo said that throughout the state election campaign period, MCMC received a complaint on content with 3R elements.

“MCMC will then request for assistance from the social media providers such as TikTok and Meta to delete the offending content.

“Based on the report from MCMC, the particular social media provider gave their full cooperation to us, and we appreciate it.

“However, there are also other social media providers who are not very responsive and we will engage them to strengthen cooperation,” she said.
