Terengganu DVS probes viral cat abuse video after 300 complaints

The Terengganu veterinary department is investigating a viral video of children abusing a cat, having received over 300 public complaints about the incident.

DUNGUN: The Terengganu Department of Veterinary Services has received over 300 public complaints regarding a viral video showing two children abusing a cat.

Its director, Dr Anun Man, said the department will conduct a thorough investigation into the incident, which is believed to have occurred in Dungun.

“We take acts of cruelty towards animals very seriously, and we will investigate this incident immediately,” she said in a statement.

She urged members of the public with any related information to come forward to assist.

An 18-second video circulated on social media earlier, showing one child pulling a rope tied around the cat’s neck.

Another child was seen kicking the animal and hitting its head with a slipper.

The graphic footage sparked widespread outrage among netizens.

The case is being investigated under the Animal Welfare Act 2015.
