KUALA TERENGGANU – The floods in Terengganu are reportedly worsening, and residents in affected areas have been advised not to panic, but to be on alert and abide by instructions and warnings issued by the authorities.
Terengganu Disaster Committee deputy chairman Hanafiah Mat said six districts have already been affected, and advised residents to abide by instructions especially when asked to evacuate.
“This second wave of flooding is expected to be worse than the first wave earlier this month,” he said, adding that only Marang and Kuala Nerus have not been hit by floods.
“People need to be more alert because this situation is expected to continue until December 22, following the Meteorological Department’s forecast of extremely heavy rain,” he said when contacted.
Hanafiah said that evacuation of victims to relief centres in the six affected districts have gone smoothly so far.
He expressed satisfaction with the commitment and cooperation of rescue agencies, including the Civil Defence Force, Fire and Rescue Department, and Volunteer Department in the evacuation of the flood victims. – Bernama, December 18, 2022
