Terengganu KPDN seizes unlicensed computer software worth RM456,750 in two raids under the Copyright Act 1987.

CHUKAI: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) seized unlicensed computer software used for commercial purposes worth a total of RM456,750 in two raids in Kemaman district here today.

Terengganu KPDN director Mohd Mufsi Lat said the raids were made under the Copyright Act 1987 at an engineering company premises in Chukai and a shipping company in Bukit Kuang near here, involving 10 enforcement officers from KPDN Kemaman branch and representatives of the copyright owners.

“The first raid carried out at an engineering company in Chukai found several software programmes believed to have been used without valid licences, including STAAD.Pro and STAAD Foundation, valued at RM71,050,” he told reporters after leading the operation here today.

The second raid was conducted at a shipping company in Bukit Kuang, Kemaman and further inspection found that the premises were believed to be using STAAD.Pro, Maxsurf and several other software programmes without the copyright owner’s permission, valued at RM385,700.

He said further inspections also found 14 copies of software believed to have been used without valid licences on the computer equipment inspected.

“In the operation, KPDN also seized four desktop computers and a laptop for forensic analysis and further investigation,” he added.
