KUALA LUMPUR – About 15,000 people attended the unity government’s Madani Aidilfitri open house in Terengganu yesterday, with most attendees excited to experience the event and meet Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Despite the event officially commencing at 7pm, revellers had started appearing at Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) in Kuala Nerus two hours prior, reported Astro Awani.
The guests were said to have driven several hours from different corners of Terengganu, such as Kemaman and Besut.
Almost a dozen stalls were set up, serving traditional delicacies including nasi dagang, keropok lekor, and laksa – dishes said to be a must at such gatherings in the East Coast state.
Ahmad Raziz Rashid, the Prime Minister’s Department corporate communications head, shared that the open house here had a different layout than the one in Kelantan, and transport services were provided to streamline the celebration.
“Praise God, today we are blessed with good weather and guests who came as early as 4.45pm,” he was quoted as saying by TV3.
“As there are many people, we provided intermediate bus services for the guests to enter and exit UniSZA,” he added.
Also in attendance were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, among other state leaders.
Meanwhile, in a Facebook post, Anwar invited the public to attend an additional Madani open house event in Perak.
