
KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu Science and Creativity Centre (PSKT) marked its 21st anniversary by once again hosting the East Coast edition of National Science Week (NSW), reinforcing its position as the region’s leading STEM education hub.
Hosting the event for the fourth consecutive year, PSKT continues to expand access to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, particularly among rural communities, amid the rapid growth of artificial intelligence (AI).
Launched in 2018, National Science Week promotes science, technology and innovation while encouraging wider participation in STEM nationwide.
This year’s programme aims to engage 1.15 million participants through a three-phase campaign, culminating in a carnival-style grand finale from Nov 8 to 11, held in conjunction with Unesco’s World Science Day on Nov 10.
The campaign began with the Road to NSW programme in April to raise awareness of national policies and strengthen institutional networks. This was followed by regional science carnivals from May to October, featuring interactive exhibitions across five zones, including Sabah and Sarawak.
The grand finale will bring together 35 participating agencies for interactive exhibitions and related activities. Among the highlights is the Malaysian Nuclear Agency’s Nuclear for the People programme, showcasing the application of nuclear technology across various sectors while promoting greater public understanding of its benefits.
Terengganu State Secretary Datuk Mohd Azmi Mohamad Daham said PSKT complements efforts to advance the National Science, Technology and Innovation Policy (DSTIN) while supporting the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the artificial intelligence era.
“It not only provides opportunities and exposure for the people of Terengganu, but also for those from other states, as it is the only dedicated science centre on the East Coast,” he said after officiating the event last week.
“Terengganu will continue to support PSKT and similar initiatives as part of efforts to empower the next generation that will drive the nation forward.”
Mohd Azmi said the facility provided significant value, particularly for younger generations, by giving them opportunities to engage directly with STEM disciplines through hands-on learning.
