Tesco is urging customers not to eat one of its chocolate desserts over fears it may contain plastic and could be unsafe.
The supermarket giant issued a recall notice for its Tesco Finest summer edition chocolate affogato dessert on Thursday, asking customers to return it to the store.
A warning issued by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) said all batches of the dessert with a date code up to and including April 2027 were included in the recall.
“If you’ve bought an affected product, please don’t eat it. Instead, return it to a Tesco store where a full refund will be given. No receipt is required,” a notice from Tesco said.
The possible presence of plastic is believed to have come from the product’s packaging, and no other Tesco products are affected by the recall, the supermarket said.
Tesco has asked customers looking for more information to get in touch with its customer service.
Last week, the chain also had to recall packets of cured meat because of a Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
It issued a recall for batches of the Curing Barn British Bresaola 60g on Saturday, stating that it could be unsafe to eat.
Listeria monocytogenes is a pathogenic bacteria that can cause listeriosis, a rare infection that can make some people seriously ill.
