- Tesco has begun rolling out a new AI-powered meal-planning assistant within its smartphone app, following an initial trial involving approximately 280,000 employees.
- Integrated with Clubcard purchase data, the assistant provides personalised recipe ideas tailored to dietary preferences, budget, cuisine, and items customers already have at home.
- The tool was created under strict secrecy protocols in collaboration with UK-based consultancy Tomoro AI, alongside a new strategic partnership with European AI start-up Mistral.
- Tesco chief executive Ken Murphy highlighted the rollout as part of major progress in AI-enabled personalisation designed to simplify everyday shopping routines for customers.
- The launch comes as competitor Sainsbury's introduced its own AI-driven SmartLists feature, allowing shoppers to create lists and manage budgets by typing or photographing items.
