Tesla Cybercabs hit Texas roads as safety agency keeps a close watch

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept 4 - The US auto safety regulator is evaluating Tesla’s rollout of Cybercab robotaxis as the electric vehicle maker begins offering rides in limited areas of Austin, Texas, a spokesperson said yesterday.

The Cybercab is a two-seater autonomous vehicle without a steering wheel, pedals or mirrors - features typically required under federal safety standards.

“The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is in contact with Tesla and is evaluating the situation,” an agency spokesperson told Reuters, without providing further details.
