The nearly three-year honeymoon phase for Malaysian Tesla owners has officially come to an end. Starting today, Tesla Malaysia has officially turned on billing across its nation-wide network of Destination Chargers, imposing a flat fee of RM0.88 per kWh for AC wallbox charging.
While nobody likes seeing a price tag attached to something that used to be free, this move isn't the disaster it might seem on the surface. In fact, if you’re a Tesla owner who actually relies on public charging, this pricing update might just be the best news you hear all week.
Since Tesla officially landed in Malaysia in late 2023, its Destination Chargers, the wall-mounted AC charging points located at major shopping malls and hotels, were free to use "until further notice".
Well, "further notice" has officially arrived.
Every Destination Charger point across over 18 locations nationwide, including popular haunts like Pavilion Bukit Jalil, IOI City Mall, The Gardens Mall, Bangsar Shopping Centre, and Sunway Velocity, now shows a flat RM0.88 per kWh rate inside the Tesla App.

Drivers who need a 15-minute quick charge can hit up a Supercharger late at night for cheap, while shoppers staying for hours can use the slow AC wallboxes without overpaying or bottlenecking the fast-charging stations.
Was the free electricity fun while it lasted? Absolutely. But as EV adoption in Malaysia scales rapidly, free infrastructure was always unsustainable.
