PETALING JAYA: Environmentally-conscious Malaysian car lovers will soon get to cruise the highway in a Tesla.

The all-electric vehicle manufacturer has just launched its Model Y in Malaysia and the first car will likely be delivered early next year, the company said in a statement today.

But at a price tag of RM199,000, it is hardly a car for the mass market.

Tesla said the new car is available in three versions, namely the basic Model Y, the Model Y Long Range and the Model Y Performance.

The mid-size SUV offers a cargo space of more than 2,100 litres as well as ample seating for up to five passengers and their belongings.

It comes with an all-glass roof, offering a panoramic view.

According to Tesla, the Model Y can accelerate from zero to 100km per hour in just 3.7 seconds. It also has a range of 533km for every battery charge.
