Kota Kinabalu: The third edition of the Tanjung Aru Beach Festival returns on Oct 28 and 29, this year at the Prince Philip Park, which aims to showcase Tanjung Aru beach as Sabah’s premier attraction while emphasising the crucial importance of keeping the beach clean.

State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew said the festival is also part of continued efforts to transform the beach into a family-friendly recreation hub, acknowledging its historical and symbolic significance.

Open to the public from 10am to 10pm, the litter-free festival will see a line-up of local and national artists, exciting beachside activities and a variety of local vendors, all set against the backdrop of the stunning Tanjung Aru beach sunset.

“It also offers local creative artists in Sabah a platform to exhibit their skills in singing, music, art and culture.

Key highlights of the festival include stage performances by ALYPH, Isaac Voo, Elica Paujin, Helloluqman & 3005 Cru, as well as other talented local artists, while visitors can groove to the tunes of “Sabah Jazz by the Beach”, with seven bands gracing the stage on the second day.

Visitors can also explore the interactive Installation Art by the Bay, which is supported by KePKAS, and other attractions like Urban Tamu vendors, the Motorsport Gathering, and the thrilling Tanjung Aru Beach Festival Race 2023, among other engaging activities.

Sports enthusiasts can enjoy beach soccer, limbo rock, tag rugby, kayaking, stand-up paddle-boarding (SUP), while other activities include Zumba sessions, photography competitions, a meet and greet with Sabah Football Club players as well as sandcastle building and coloring competitions for children.

Supported by the State Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry (Kepkas), Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (Motac), Sabah Tourism Board (STB) and Tourism Malaysia, Christina aspires for the festival to become a signature event as part of the State’s tourism sector.

“This event plays a huge role in contributing to Sabah’s tourism industry as it promotes one of Sabah’s main attractions, the breathtaking sunset views at Tanjung Aru Beach, which has become an attraction for visitors, particularly tourists,” she said.
