A woman’s head was shaved at a bar in Thailand over an unpaid bill of up to 60,000 baht, sparking backlash and conflicting accounts from the bar and her family.
A BAR MANAGER in Thailand is facing backlash after allegedly shaving a young woman’s hair off over an unpaid bill of up to 60,000 baht (RM7,278).
According to a TikTok video, the manager was seen shaving the young customer’s hair. It was alleged that the establishment claimed the customer had agreed to the arrangement, with her shaved hair to be used for a charitable donation.
She was then taken to a police station, where the manager lodged a police report against her.
However, the Bangkok Post reported that other parties had claimed the customer had allegedly been involved in similar incidents in the past.
The bar reportedly claimed that the woman had patronised the premises using a fake identity card on Aug 25 and did not have enough money to settle the bill.
To settle the matter, the customer, at the manager’s request, signed an agreement to sell her hair for 3,000 baht (RM364).
Meanwhile, the young woman’s mother disputed the account, saying her daughter had offered to pay the hefty bill in instalments but that the offer was rejected.
Her mother further alleged that her daughter had been physically assaulted, saying she found signs of bruising. She reportedly said that a police report would be lodged against the bar manager on Aug 28.
Additionally, a representative from a Thai social advocacy foundation reportedly said the bar manager had informed her that he would apologise to the customer’s family.
The representative also expressed her disagreement with his actions, questioning why he had not simply lodged a police report.
She also called on the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security to check on the customer’s well-being, citing concerns about her young age and possible mental health condition.
